Achievements

The Commission has done the following:

  • Issued several notices both to inform the general public and to particular persons with regard to land ownership by non-citizens, public agencies owning and occupying land, verification of letters of allotment, eviction of squatters, and many more.
  • Informed itself through induction and training sessions
  • Held several consultative forums with professionals in the land sector, Governors, and County Secretaries in charge of land related resources, and public agencies that deal with land.
  • Participated in opening up closed or grabbed public spaces and access routes, including grabbed islands.
  • Facilitated acquisition of land and compensating affected persons for road constructions and creation of wayleaves.
  • It is continuously addressing public complaints regarding land issues, either through written memoranda or visits by delegations and individuals to Ardhi House.
  • Toured several counties to attend to perennial land issues Nakuru, Kajiado, Narok, Meru, Kiambu, Kwale, Kilifi and Mombasa, Baringo, Migori, Kisumu, Isiolo, Siaya among others.
  • National Land Commission Secretary/ CEO Mr. Tom Aziz Chavangi was officially appointed and sworn in on 14th June 2013. He is now setting up administrative structures for the Commission.
  • National Land Commission is drafting Rules and Regulations to operationalize the National Land Commission Act, the Land Act and the Land Registration Act. Has commenced formation of County Land Management Boards.
  • The Commission is also participating in formulation of the Evictions and Settlement Bill and the Community Land Bill.
  • Verifying and streamlining records.

The Commission is working hard to resolve the following issues

  • Delayed issuance of title deeds
  • Back log of court cases
  • Conflicts among communities
  • Conflicts among communities and boundary disputes.
  • Minor shortcomings in land law
  • Delivery of services in a timely and efficient manner
  • Creating an understanding between the Commission, stakeholders and our key partners
  • Integrity of records including verification and updating of such records.
  • Double allocations.
